On Tuesday 6th March 2012, Officers from the Jersey Customs and Immigration Service, assisted by the States of Jersey Police, arrested Liam Thomas Richard NORRIS, aged 32, at his place of work in St Brelade. NORRIS had been observed supplying an associate, Benjamin Philip BISHOP, age 23, with a commercial quantity of cannabis resin.
On Tuesday 6th March 2012, Officers from the Jersey Customs and Immigration Service, assisted by the States of Jersey Police, arrested Liam Thomas Richard NORRIS, aged 32, at his place of work in St Brelade. NORRIS had been observed supplying an associate, Benjamin Philip BISHOP, age 23, with a commercial quantity of cannabis resin.
At the same time, in a co-ordinated action, Officers from the Staffordshire Police Service arrested the father of Liam, Richard Christopher NORRIS, aged 51, in the Burton on Trent area of the UK and found almost a quarter of a ton of cannabis awaiting shipment to Jersey.
Following a protracted and complicated investigation both Liam and his father were sentenced today in the Royal Court to 8 years imprisonment and 7 years 3 months imprisonment respectively for conspiracy with others to import and supply commercial quantities of cannabis resin.
David Nurse, Director of Law Enforcement said:
“The Jersey Customs and Immigration Service will work jointly with other law enforcement agencies, both on and off Island, wherever possible to achieve its aims in this area of drug law enforcement.
The Service will always look to effect arrests and make seizures where this will cause the greatest impact on the drug syndicate itself.
I wish to put on record my thanks to the States of Jersey Police and to the Staffordshire Police, as this excellent result for the Island would not have been possible without their assistance and to congratulate the Officers from all our organisations who have worked very hard to bring this case to a successful conclusion .”
