Jersey Post has been shortlisted for two national awards at this year’s Green Fleet Awards, and in addition, has also been shortlisted in two categories at this year’s Commercial Fleet Awards.

Green Fleet Awards

At the Green Fleet Awards, Jersey Post has been shortlisted for Private Sector Fleet of the Year (Small to Medium), and Jersey Post’s Fleet Manager, Darren Moon, has been shortlisted for Private Sector Fleet Manager of the Year.

This is the second year that Jersey Post has been shortlisted at this prestigious industry event. In 2016, the organisation took home the award for the Private Sector Fleet of the Year (Small to Medium), an award which recognises organisations with less than 300 vehicles, and which can demonstrate a reduction in CO2 and other pollutants.

Daren Moon, Jersey Post Fleet Manager said, “Since the awards last year, we’ve been working hard to reduce overall fleet costs for the business. In the last 12 months alone costs have been reduced by over £21,000 which can be attributed to improved processes and fuel bills. We’ve also seen the number of accidents continue to decline, thanks to new initiatives which include pre-interview driving checks, and in-vehicle tracking to monitor driving performance.

Commercial Fleet Awards

At the Commercial Fleet Awards, Jersey Post has been shortlisted in the Commercial Fleet of the Year – Delivery Operator category, and the Environment & Low Carbon category. Both categories featuring some significantly larger organisations including Heathrow Airport and Royal Mail.

In July this year, Jersey Post doubled its electric fleet to 30 Nissan e-NV200s. Over the next 3 years, the organisation plans to continue increasing the greener fleet profile in line with its annual renewal strategy, with the purchase of an additional 15 electric vans in 2018, which will mean 49.5% of its fleet becomes electric.

Kenan Osborne, Interim Director of Postal Operations stated “We are obviously thrilled that our continued investment in electric vehicles has been recognised for a second, consecutive year at the Green Fleet Awards and now also by an additional industry body. The whole operations team has worked really hard to make this transition possible and the benefits we have experienced are a credit to them. Whilst we’re shortlisted against some much larger UK-based organisations, we really believe we have an excellent chance of taking home an award – hopefully four!”

The first of these awards ceremonies – the Green Fleet Awards - takes place on 23 November at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. The Commercial Fleet Awards takes place on 30 November in Birmingham.
