Summer flowers and a bowler hat will be worn by the 10th Barclays Jersey Boat Show duck.

The celebratory duck was designed by nine year old Monique Gueguen from First Tower School. She said: “I chose the flowers because they’re bright and happy, like a celebration.”

This is the 10thyear that the Barclays duck will act as a mascot for the Jersey Boat Show. The 2018 superhero ‘Bubble duck’, designed by Aimée Flack, helped to raise £12,600 for The Royal British Legion, through the popular hook-a-duck game.

The competition to design the 2019 duck was open to children aged 15 and under using any materials to liven up the design. A shortlist of three ducks, chosen by the show’s organising committee, was posted on the Barclays Overseas Services Facebook page so that the public could vote for their favourite.

Managing director of Barclays in the Channel Islands, Paul Savery said: “Barclays is proud to sponsor the largest free event in the Channel Islands which is popular with both visitors and locals. Monique’s flower design really captures a celebratory spirit and is perfect for the 10thanniversary of Barclays’ sponsorship of the show.”

The 2018 show enjoyed spectacular sunny weather and attracted more than 35,000 people who were entertained by a packed programme of activities.

The Barclays Jersey Boat Show will return to St Helier in 2019 over the May bank holiday weekend.
