Futsal Jersey Limited announced its first corporate sponsorship agreement to provide children of all backgrounds, opportunities to enjoy Futsal Fun Weeks, starting in July.

Smith & Williamson, part of leading wealth management and professional services group Tilney Smith & Williamson, agreed to support Futsal Fun Weeks by offering 20 bursaries for secondary school children to participate in the eagerly anticipated summer camps, which will be hosted at Haute Vallee school.

The Futsal Jersey corporate sponsorship programme is designed to ensure Futsal becomes a leading sport in driving inclusivity and diversity in the island. Futsal Jersey Limited, Managing Director, Jean-Luc Desbois said, “we are absolutely delighted in securing this valuable first partnership and funding from Smith & Williamson. This will allow Futsal Jersey to work with States of Jersey schools in providing equal access to sporting opportunities for youngsters who might otherwise be excluded or marginalised on grounds of gender, race, class, sexuality, or disability”.

School holiday activity camps are becoming popular, particularly with the uncertainty surrounding the ever-changing pandemic travel restrictions. Many Jersey-based families face the prospect of another summer without leaving the island. Sport plays an increasingly important part in offering children mental stimulation, social interaction, and energetic activity.

Matt Falla, Managing Director, Smith & Williamson (S&W), commented; “We are proud to be the first sponsor of such an exciting initiative, and hope our support helps to provide equal opportunities for children on the island over the summer. As a firm we like to support diversity and inclusion and think Futsal Jersey is a great way to bring people together”

The Smith & Williamson sponsorship is hoped to be the first of several such agreements, which enables corporate entities to enrich the lives of children through the sport. Jean-Luc said, “putting children first is a strategic priority for Government of Jersey and there are many ways in which the business community can help the island deliver on this”. Futsal Jersey is expecting to announce further agreements soon and encourages local businesses or corporates wishing to support children to play Futsal to contact play@futsal.je.
