Intertrust is supporting UN Global Road Safety Week, which began on 8 May, by giving away 200 cycle helmets to help keep Guernsey’s young people safe.
The helmets, which are suitable for children under the age of 13, have been donated to Guernsey Child Accident Prevention Group, Headway Guernsey, the Guernsey Police for use at its cycling profiency courses, Bikeability and the Guernsey Bicycle Group.
A spokesperson at Bikeability, said: “Intertrust have been very generous in offering us helmets for our cycling courses. Wearing a helmet when cycling is so important as it helps protect you from injury.
“We will be giving some of the helmets out as prizes to reward participants’ effort and improvement. The rest of the helmets will be used by children who don’t own a helmet or who don’t have a suitable one. Intertrust’s donation will make such a difference and will highlight the importance of wearing a helmet.”
Paul Schreibke, managing director of Intertrust in Guernsey, said: “Cycling continues to get more and more popular and road safety is therefore even more significant. We are pleased to be able to raise awareness and give out helmets to children in Guensey to help them stay safe on their bikes.
“It is great to be able to support so many local groups that promote road safety. I’m confident the helmets will be benefical and hopefully children will be encouraged to make sure they wear a helmet while having fun and being active.”
The Guernsey Child Accident Prevention Group will be giving out a number of helmets in a raffle during the Safety Calling Challenge, which takes place in June, and Headway Guernsey will be using the helmets to support Brain Injury Awareness Week (8-14 May).
