Acorn Enterprise is challenging Islanders to de-clutter their homes this Spring, by taking part in its 40 items in 40 days Lent campaign. The social enterprise is encouraging islanders to clear out one household or clothing item that is no-longer needed for each day of Lent, collecting these items for donation to the Acorn Reuse Centre after Easter weekend.
There has already been tremendous support for the challenge on social media and Acorn are inviting participants to share their progress, by tagging them in photos of their daily donations.
Acorn Reuse Centre is part of a series of businesses run by Acorn Enterprises – the social enterprise in association with the Jersey Employment Trust – which provides employment and training for people with disabilities and long-term health conditions.
General Manager Steve Pearce said: “We are really excited to offer this challenge to the local community as so many people love to get involved with our campaigns. Lent is traditionally a time to give up something and what better way than by donating it to a worthwhile cause such as Acorn. Every penny we make is reinvested into training and support for our clients, so the more we have donated, the more we can grow our enterprise and offer Islanders a larger range of reasonably priced, high quality items
“We hope that everyone will want to participate in our Lent challenge to get a head start on their spring cleaning!”
With more drive than ever to do your bit for the environment, the team at Acorn hopes this challenge will inspire Islanders to re-think their disposal and purchasing habits in the future, looking to buy second hand where possible. Donating items that you no longer want or need benefits the environment by diverting tonnes of unwanted goods from the waste stream. At Acorn Enterprise, second hand doesn’t mean second best.
