The annual Jersey Hospice Care Tour de Jersey cycling event returns in-person this July.

The annual Jersey Hospice Care “Tour de Jersey” cycling event returns in-person on 18 July, building on the success and popularity it has received from the last two years. Three new routes have been devised for participants to choose from: a challenging 100km or 50km route and a 25km route perfect for beginners or family teams. Online registration is now open.

In 2020, this much-loved regular fixture in the Jersey cycling calendar successfully moved to a virtual format, where over 120 Islanders completed the challenge in their own time, raising £8,000 for Hospice. The team at Jersey Hospice Care are grateful to every participant and their sponsors for their continued support last year and are delighted to announce the return of the event in-person this July. Islanders are invited to sign up online at www.jerseyhospicecare.com/tour-de-jersey-2021 where Registration is £15 for adults, £5 for 12 to 16 year olds and free to under 12s.

Sponsored by Ravenscroft, Tour de Jersey offers Islanders a fantastic opportunity to explore Jersey by bike and raise vital funds for all those receiving specialist palliative care at one of the most difficult times of their life. It costs over £20,000 a day to provide their services, free of charge, whether at Hospice or in the community (at the hospital, at home, or in another residential setting). It is hoped that this event will raise more than £9,000 in 2021 – enough to fund a day of personalised care for up to twelve patients staying on the In Patient Unit in one of Hospice’s private en-suite bedrooms which overlook peaceful St Aubin’s bay.

Scott Douglas, Jersey Hospice Care Events and Lotteries Officer, said: “It is great to be able to announce the 2021 Tour de Jersey as an in-person event. We are truly grateful to each and every one of our participants and their sponsors for their support last year and we can’t wait to welcome them back safely. Those looking to take part in the 100km cycle are up for a real challenge this year and will earn every bit of sponsorship they receive - with every penny going towards helping our patients who are living with dying to live life to the full.

Haydn Taylor, Managing Director of Ravenscroft in Jersey, said: “It is fantastic that this year’s Tour de Jersey will allow islanders to come together, get out on their bikes and raise money for Jersey Hospice, which provides such essential care to people when it is needed the most. The three routes offer something for cyclists of all ages and, as sponsor, the team at Ravenscroft is looking forward to being involved again.”

Ian Williams, owner of Cog and Sprocket and a long-term supporter of Jersey Hospice Care, has once again kindly devised the routes for the event. The main 100km route is challenging enough for even the most seasoned cyclists wanting some healthy competition and the 50km and 25km routes provide easier options to choose from, so that people new to the sport are also able to take part. Ian said: “The Jersey Hospice Care Tour de Jersey is always a great addition to the Jersey cycling calendar and I know many people will be happy to see it return as an in-person event. I’ve tried to make the routes a mixture of challenging and enjoyable, with something to suit everyone – from families with children out on their first bikes, to tougher routes for experienced club cyclists.”

The 2021 Jersey Hospice Care Tour de Jersey will take place on the 18 July starting at the Waterfront in town, start time and exact location to be confirmed.
