The skies over Plémont will be coloured with kites on Saturday 22 July as the National Trust kite flying event returns with sponsorship from Intertrust.

The free event is open to everyone and people are encouraged to bring a picnic to make the most of the afternoon or partake in a vintage afternoon tea in one of the brightly coloured tents that will be on site.

Bill and Julie Souten, who run the Midlands Kite Flying Club, are visiting the island for the event and will be supplying all the materials needed to make the kites. The site will be decorated with pennants so eager kite-makers will have no trouble working out where to go.

Bill is one of the most experienced kite flyers in the UK and he will be sharing all his experience and tips on flying kites of all kinds.

Children’s entertainer Allan Gardner will be at the event as 'Skyman' and there will also be self-guided nature trails and bug safaris throughout the afternoon and craft activities with an environment theme.

Intertrust Jersey managing director Simon Mackenzie said: "The National Trust kite flying event is enjoyed by many in Jersey and we're delighted to be sponsoring it this year. At Intertrust we have a community focus on youth and education and this is certainly an event that not only ties in with those themes, but also contributes to protecting Jersey's environment while bringing people together for a fun afternoon.”

As well as making and flying kites, the event will provide opportunities for people to learn more about Jersey and the preservation of the island’s natural heritage including the newly-restored Plémont headland.

The National Trust for Jersey’s chief executive, Charles Alluto, said: “After last year’s success, we’re thrilled to be able to run the event again this year thanks to Intertrust’s sponsorship. We look forward to seeing many families and friends come down for an exciting day filled with plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy.”

The event starts at 2pm on Saturday 22 July.
