Little did I know that my second retirement from high jump would last a matter of months.
Before the 2017 Island Games I was adamant that the competition in Gotland would be my last. I said the same following the Jersey Games two years earlier, and while my competition spikes do still remain in the boot bag I have once again found a way back onto the red tartan at FB Fields.
The return coincides with the launch of a new social media-based project designed to use high jump as a tool to promote athletics, create smiles and raise money for charity.
Launched today, ‘HighFly Fox’ will take high jump to new locations in 2018 and beyond, with the aim of raising the profile of the event in ‘weird and wonderful’ ways.
The project’s first campaign will be a 12-hour challenge on Saturday 17 March 2018, when I will attempt to jump in excess of 1,000m for Sport Relief. Before then, we will be releasing high jump videos via YouTube and our website – featuring the likes of Jersey Reds, Team Jets, England netballer Serena Guthrie and Wimbledon 2017 tennis player Scott Clayton.
To celebrate the launch, HighFly Fox has teamed up with Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa to offer a special prize. Followers and subscribers on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter will be in with a chance of winning an overnight stay for two at the five-star facility in St Helier.
