Voisin Law is teaming up with Citizens Advice Jersey to help Islanders understand the new Disability Discrimination Regulations and how the changes will affect them.
Solicitors Dexter Flynn and Stephanie Habin will be delivering a presentation with Malcolm Ferey from Citizens Advice Jersey on Monday 2ndJuly at St Paul’s Centre in Dumaresq Street.
The new Discrimination (Disability) (Jersey) Regulations 2018 will come into force on 1stSeptember 2018. Disability will join race, sex and sexual orientation, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity and age as protected characteristics under Jersey’s Discrimination Law.
The Regulations aim to promote equality for disabled Islanders.
Speaking about the presentation Dexter Flynn said,“We hope by delivering this presentation we’ll help bring people up to speed on the impact of this new legislation.
“We’ll explain the definition of disability under the Regulations and how the Regulations protect against discrimination in relation to disability in the context of employment and touch upon the provision of goods and services.”
Stephanie Habin added, “We will also discuss the duty that the Regulations place upon employers to make reasonable adjustments, whether that be via the provision of auxiliary aids or adjustments to their premises.
The lunchtime presentation starts at 12.30pm and should last one hour.
