Jersey Mencap were delighted to welcome 430 walkers this year to their annual South Coast Charity Challenge.  Participants aged from 10 years to 82 years old took on the challenge which has so far raised £15,849.

Funding is used to support and develop the charity’s projects in line with it’s core aim of providing meaningful opportunities for people with a Learning Disability in Jersey.  This includes a busy social club with dinner discos, zumba and film nights to the valuable skills developed at the Pond Project.  The vibrant Taking Part Making Art continues to thrive with sessions re-homed at the new Harbour Gallery this Spring.

As part of the challenge a shorter, accessible route option is popular amongst members and supporters.  This facilitated people walking a 3-mile route from Jardin de la Mer to Bel Royal and return.  It was heartening to see people of all abilities completing the challenge and enjoying home baked cakes at the finish.

Blue skies and sunshine ensured all walkers and their supporters has a great day.

The charity would like to thank sponsors Randalls, Sandpiper, Libertybus, Jersey Water, Jersey Land Rover Club and Nurtrigum for helping them deliver the event.  Special thanks to the 22 volunteers who helped keep walkers safe through a range of roles in the lead up to and during the day itself.

Jake Godel, Jersey Mencap member completed the 15-mile challenge for the first time commented “Everyone is really proud”.
