The last Jersey Post Open Day of the year is being held on Saturday 7th December and lets islanders take a peek behind the scenes at Postal Headquarters, Rue des Pres. It is a fun event for all of the family, with a chance to make your own Christmas cards, meet some of the postmen and women who work come rain or shine to deliver the Island’s mail and also see Santa Claus, who is making an early visit to Jersey.

The visit also covers how a postmark is applied, how Christmas glitter can bring the postal process to a halt and how a machine can sort up to 30,000 letters an hour based on the six characters in a postcode. The tour ends with refreshments and the chance to ask any questions about the postal service.

There are two tours, each lasting an hour, with room for up to 25 people on each with places allocated on a first come, first served basis. Children are very welcome and Postal HQ is accessible for wheelchair users.

Since Jersey Post moved from its old Mont Pinel sorting office to its new home in 1996, the company has welcomed a large number of school visitors and official delegates but now extends the invite to the general public on specific open days.

Islanders should register to attend by calling Jersey Post on 616616 or by emailing customerservices@jerseypost.com. There are is no charge for attending, though guests will be given an opportunity to donate to Jersey Post’s chosen charity for 2013, Headway.
