This spring, Jersey Sport are encouraging islanders to get outside and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine whilst moving more to improve their mental and physical health.

Whether it’s walking, cycling, running or swimming you prefer, Jersey Sport have something for everyone, no matter your age or ability. And there’s no better time to take that first step and start moving just a little bit more.

Claudia Andrade, Move More Community Engagement and Inclusion Officer at Jersey Sport said: “Living an active lifestyle is important to stay healthy, both physically and mentally. Through our wide range of Move More Jersey programmes we’re able to support islanders of all ages and abilities to get more active more often. We’re committed to helping people gain more confidence, improve their fitness, boost their mental health and enhance their social connections with like-minded people. There’s no better time to get moving than during Move More March!”

Going for a walk can make a huge difference to your health - even a short 10-minute brisk walk can get your heart pumping faster, making you feel more energetic and improving your mood. Breathing in fresh air will also give you a boost, both physically and mentally. Any weather can be walking weather with the right clothing and preparation, so get outside this spring!

Our Move More Walks, which are all free and lead by friendly volunteers, are designed to improve mental and physical wellbeing, provide support and encouragement, whilst providing the opportunity to meet some new people. Our Level 1 group walks are especially useful for those with lower physical ability or long-term health conditions. Our walking timetable ensures walks start from a wide variety of locations across the island with convenient parking and accessible bus routes. From 10 April, our Move More Adult Indoor Swim programme starts for beginners needing support at the start of their swimming journey and for intermediates who want to progress their swimming ability gradually. Both are a great way to meet new people, and a great way to improve fitness. For further details, please visit: www.movemore.je/adult-indoor-swimming

Our free Move More Sofa2Saddle programme starting on 17 April, is a six-week cycling programme designed for adults who may have learnt how to ride a bike but may need some support to feel more confident when riding. Led by our friendly and qualified ride leaders, the course will take you along routes which are predominantly through quiet traffic free lanes, mainly on flat terrain, with introductions to small inclines and descents. And for those that would like to learn how to run, our free Move More RunTogether Couch to 5K programme starts again on 24 April. It’s not about speed but aimed at people who need support to start running, or to help islanders continue on their running journey. The course will help to build running confidence and the ability to achieve a 5km run (or run/walk) in nine weeks. For more details, please visit: www.movemore.je/run-more

Throughout the year we also offer Move More Ability Multi-Sport, Circuits and Boccia sessions for those with a disability, and we offer a wide variety of opportunities to cycle at our Cycle Without Limits inclusive cycling centre at Les Quennevais cycle track.
