For this week’s Well-list, Bailiwick Wellbeing asked some of the islanders running marathons this weekend what tunes really get them going.

Here’s what the Jersey and London runners picked (Warning: very eclectic playlist alert)...

Why were these songs chosen?

Gecko (Overdrive) by Oliver Heldens X Becky Hill

Bex Harris, running for JBTC

Usually I listen to the radio when I run because I like the variation and the chatting in between songs, however my all time favourite running song has to be Gecko (Overdrive) by Oliver Heldens X Becky Hill as it is one of the first songs I ever had on my running playlist, has such a good beat and never fails to make me want to lace up my trainers and run!

Bombtrack by Rage Against the Machine

Graham Bell, running for Macmillan

I think I’d go with Bombtrack from Rage Against the Machine. If you need something to motivate you, this does the job for me!

Must Be Love by Madness

Andrew Jones, running for Variety

“My favourite running song is It Must Be Love by Madness. It’s the song we had played at our wedding when we walked back up the aisle and has been a favourite song of mine since I first heard it in a school disco in Wales, a long time ago! It’s a song out loud song and one where I always get caught out singing aloud.”

Eye of the Tiger by Survivor

Salem Karadsheh, financial controller at RBSi, running for JET

“I don’t normally listen to music while running but the song that inspires me while doing sport is the Eye of the Tiger by Survivor, the theme song for one of my favourite movies, Rocky III. The lyrics are very motivational and help me combat mental fatigue.”

Hearts on Fire by John Cafferty (Rocky soundtrack)

Alex Smyth, Director at Oakbridge, also running for JET

'I tend to listen to audiobooks when I am running but if I ever need some inspiration from songs I listen to Hearts on Fire by John Cafferty (Rocky soundtrack) because it's all about rising up and overcoming adversity or Awake My Soul by Hillsong Worship because it’s hugely uplifting.'

Set You Free by N-Trance

Liam McCormack, who is running the London Marathon for Mencap, says this tune really inspires him.

You can support Liam and Jersey Mencap by sponsoring his marathon via JustGiving.

Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen

Jersey Gorilla Will Highfield, who is running the London Marathon in a Gorilla suit for Durrell

"I’m pretty boring and run without music as it gives me a great opportunity to switch off from everything else and think. Generally, I’ll be planning my next running challenge or fundraising event whilst I’m out on longer runs! It's a bit cheesy but Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen always pops into my head because the title says it all and the chorus is pretty catchy when things get tough! Otherwise, I’m a big listener of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Oasis."
