Recently Martin Kelly, General Manager of Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa had the pleasure of handing over a cheque totalling £6,200 for local charity Friends of SCBU. The money has been raised thanks to generous donations from hotel guests who have kindly participated in the £1 on bills scheme.
Friends of SCBU has been the charity of choice for the five star St Helier hotel for three consecutive years and in that time the hotel has raised well over £17,000.
The charity is dedicated to raising funds for Jersey’s Special Care Baby Unit ("SCBU"), which provides essential treatment for premature and sick babies in the island, and funds raised to date have helped towards the Baby Bean Appeal, which set to raise over £100,000 for five monitors required to ensure safer births for Jersey mums and towards the planned refurbishment of the SCBU family room.
Discussing the hotel’s relationship with the charity Martin Kelly said, “To raise over £17,000 in a three year period is a fantastic achievement. We originally selected Friends of SCBU as our charity of choice as we were incredibly impressed by the way in which the committee dedicate so much time to the charity alongside working full time and supporting their own families.”
Commenting on latest installment of funds from Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa, Joanne Currie, Chairwoman at Friends of SCBU, said “The team and I are incredibly grateful to Martin, Vivien and all the staff at the Grand Jersey for their continued support. The funds they have raised have enabled us reach our goals and support SCBU and the Jersey families the way we set out to.”
Joanne went on to say “In addition, yesterday evening Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa kindly assisted with a special event hosted by the Maternity Unit, which brought together the staff from SCBU, Maternity and Robin Ward, along with the Charities, Jersey individuals, businesses and schools who support those departments. We are again, as always, thankful for the support.”
