The Good Companions Club continues to operate in a much more limited form since the government restrictions were imposed upon gatherings. We are conscious of the fact that many of our members live alone and indeed are lonely and attending the Club is a vital part of their lives. Regrettably we are unable to assist members as much as we would like but as an alternative, we have continued our pastoral care and have two staff members constantly calling members and speaking to them about the difficulties under lockdown. The Club will continue to help by giving them someone to whom they can talk to when they feel it’s getting too much being alone, especially those who have no family.
The team at the club also help make arrangements for shopping to be delivered while generally provide reassurance, in addition the Club is now preparing freshly cooked meals for delivery to members daily. These are prepared solely by our small team, who ensure that they are nutritious, and much appreciated by our members (see photographs attached). Some 15 to 36 meals are delivered daily to our members who are some of the most vulnerable members of society. This is likely to be an ongoing process given the fact that the members are some of the most vulnerable members of the community and are inevitably likely to be the last to be released from restrictions as and when that happens. The Club and its Management team are committed to supporting its members and indeed have also been providing meals to other vulnerable persons who are not Club members. This we see as part of our role of supporting all elderly in the community. Many of our members, a lot of whom live on their own, are very stressed by the current arrangements and a friendly voice and support is much appreciated.
This is a tough time for everyone including the Club as fundraising activities which are critical to its well-being are obviously being curtailed however the Club is committed to supporting its members going forward.
