Students from the Higher National Diploma in Sport course at Highlands College will meet with members of the sports industry, at a meet and greet event, to discuss career options and expectations.

The course was designed alongside key members of the sporting community including Jersey Sport, Jersey Football Association and Jersey Reds, who will attend the event.

The 11 students, who began the course on Monday 23 September, are being given the opportunity to meet with key members and employers. The students will be able to hear more about working in the industry, what challenges they may face and how the role of sport in Jersey is changing.

Senator Steve Pallett, who has political responsibility for sport, is due to attend the event on the Monday, 30 September at Highlands, he said: “The event will be a fantastic opportunity for students to engage with leaders within our sports bodies and clubs to hear more about the opportunities locally for students to further their careers by enabling islanders to be more active irrespective of age and background.

“The role sport and active living plays in mental and physical health, as well as general wellbeing should not be underestimated and must continue to be developed and supported. This event should promote constructive discussions and develop ideas that focus on the Governments desire to create greater opportunities and inclusivity for islanders to become healthier and more active.’

Senator Steve Pallett will attend the event with the sports students and meet with key partners on the island such as representatives from the Jersey Sport Foundation, Jersey FA, Jersey Cricket, Jersey Reds, Jersey Sport Foundation and Jersey Bulls as well as members from private leisure facilities and clubs.

Highlands College will host the event on Monday, 30 September in the College’s Academy Restaurant, where a breakfast ‘meet and greet’ will take place from 9am.
