Praxis has partnered with Every Child Our Future to provide the gift of a book to every child attending ECOF’s Book Buddy programme.

Thanks to this generous donation three groups of children were going to be surprised last week when they arrived at the Library to find they would be visiting Waterstones to choose a book.

The children aged 7 to 8 attend Springfield, Janvrin and Rouge Bouillon schools and over the last term have been enjoying after school library sessions where on arrival they are greeted by a “buddy” who  reads to them, listens to them read and explore all that the Island’s wonderful Library has to offer.

Praxis, which specialise in Private Wealth and Corporate Services, has not only provided a £2,000 donation that will fund all children in the programme for 2023, but in addition has also provided volunteer “buddies” over the space of this year that will amount to over 120 hours of 1 on 1 support.

Daniel Reynolds, Managing Director of Praxis in Jersey said: "As a Jersey company for over 50 years, we are so pleased to support Every Child Our Future and our community by enabling our staff to help through dedicated volunteering time, and our financial support. Our team have loved volunteering and have also gained so much from the experience. Being able to provide books for children so that they can develop their reading skills at home is wonderful at any time but particularly just before Christmas."

Cris Lakeman, CEO of Every Child Our Future, said: "Corporate partnerships are essential for the work of our charity and provide volunteers and donations which enable ECOF to support local children with the foundations of their learning. There is no doubt that children benefit from the individual time spent reading with an adult and equally the volunteers thoroughly enjoy this rewarding experience."
