Islanders who are interested in finding out about apprenticeship opportunities with Trackers Apprentice Programme are invited to attend a free information drop-in at Jersey Arts Centre on Saturday 1st March from 5 – 7pm.

The event marks the start of Trackers' three-week recruitment period for apprenticeships starting in summer 2014 and is an opportunity to talk to current apprentices, employers and Trackers mentors.

Programme Manager Penny Shurmer said: "The Trackers model is based on the apprentice, employer and mentor working together to achieve positive outcomes for everyone, so this is a great chance to speak to all three parties who can tell you first hand what it's like to work with Trackers."

She added: "We look for motivated individuals who are committed to working hard, both in their place of employment and at their academic studies. Since launching in December 2012, 100% of our apprentices successfully completed their first year, a figure that demonstrates the quality and dedication of everyone involved with the programme."

Up to 60 new places are available to start with Trackers this summer in both traditional areas - such as carpentry and joinery, painting and decorating, plumbing, electrical trades, bricklaying, motor vehicle maintenance, welding and fabrication, catering and hairdressing - and new industry areas, including health care and hospitality. Applications are invited from individuals aged 16+; there is no upper age-limit.

The local event also introduces National Careers and National Apprenticeship Week, which begins on 3rd March and will see a number of talks and presentations in schools and colleges.

Employers who would like to work with Trackers are invited to attend the Information event and meet both the Trackers team and other employers who are currently engaged with the programme. Alternatively application forms for apprentices and employers can be found on the States of Jersey website www.gov.je/trackers. The deadline for applications is 5pm on Thursday 20th March, 2014.

Representatives from Careers Jersey, the Youth Service and Skills Jersey will also be at the event to offer information, advice and guidance.
