Local group celebrates the achievements of The Grow Project and The Branchage Group in the RHS Community Awards.
Jersey, October 2021 - This year, to shine a light on the incredible work of community groups around the country, the Royal Horticultural Society introduced Community Awards. In place of a physical Britain in Bloom Finals Tour for 2021, Natural Jersey nominated two environmental groups to represent Jersey by sharing their stories digitally through photos, short videos and detailed descriptions.
RHS expert panels considered 118 projects across five categories that recognise distinct areas of consideration within community gardening: cultivating your community; green solutions; nature-friendly gardening; nourishing your community; and planting with purpose.
Natural Jersey is delighted to announce that The Grow Project and The Branchage Campaign were 2 of just 21 projects nationally to have been recognised as particularly outstanding for their work. Both groups were awarded in the category ‘Green Solutions - creating nature-based solutions to environmental challenges’.
Kay Clark, RHS Community Development Manager noted that:
“It's been particularly exciting to see the number of projects focusing on local environmental issues, whether they are using plants to mitigate pollution, managing wetland to alleviate floods, or sowing pollinator patches, we are seeing community gardening groups tackling the most urgent problems.”
