This weekend's programme features bargains to be had, birds to be watched and strolls to be walked.

Each week, Bailiwick Wellbeing shares a selection of sporty and community local events for you to get involved in.

Here are the top picks...

NSPCC Jersey Walk for Children & Light Ups

When? All weekend

Where? All around the island

What? Over 20 local buildings have been lit up in green and flying flags this week to help raise awareness of NSPCC Jersey and encourage donations to fund its services.

Friends, families and colleagues are invited to walk 5k (Walk for Children) and raise money amongst the longest nights of the year. You can plan your own route or follow those suggested by the NSPCC to tie in with the lit up buildings, which include Jersey Airport, the Boat House in St. Aubin, IFC5, the Harbour and Trinity Manor. Check the event’s JustGiving page for more information and to make donations.

Reds v Ealing

When? Saturday 4 February – 14:00

Where? Jersey Rugby Football Club

What? The Reds face Ealing Trailfinders Rugby Club at home.

Jersey Great Garden Birdwatch

When? All weekend.

Where? Across the island.

What? Islanders are invited to take part in a citizen science project by counting and recording the birds visiting their gardens for one hour on either Saturday or Sunday morning. The data will be shared with Birds on the Edge (BOTE), the Société Jersiaise’s bird section and Jersey Biodiversity Centre.

Bonanza Gift sale

When? Sunday 5 February – 10:00 to 15:00

Where? Royal Jersey Showground

What? The Rotary Club de la Manche will be reselling unused gifts from Christmas or birthdays, providing a great opportunity to pick up a bargain. All proceeds will go to the Jersey Christmas Appeal 2023. Beresford Street Kitchen will be providing refreshments.

Lantern Festival

When? Sunday 5 February – 13:00 to 16:00

Where? St. Helier Parish Hall

What? The Lantern Festival marks the final day of the traditional Chinese New Year celebration. In Jersey, this will be celebrated with a demonstration of traditional Chinese dance between 13:00 and 14:00, followed by family activities such as riddles, lantern making and face painting.
