Appleby has become the latest sponsor and supporter of the Board Apprentice scheme.
As Legal Partner, Appleby will be providing legal training to the Board Apprentices.
The aim of the programme is to increase the number and diversity of candidates for directorships, and provide individuals with hands-on board experience through educational ‘seats’. The apprentices will spend a year attending board meetings as an observer and gaining the experience needed to secure a directorship.
Appleby Partner, Anthony Williams, said: “The Board Apprentice Scheme is a great initiative for Guernsey that offers a unique opportunity for aspiring directors to gain valuable experience. The legal environment in which directors operate here is becoming increasingly complex and we are really pleased to be able to support the Board by providing legal training for the programme’s Apprentices.”
Tina Torode, local Board Apprentice coordinator said: “We are delighted that law firm, Appleby, has become involved in the local scheme. It is only with the help that our local professional services firms provide that we can take this initiative forward and provide the island with the next set of 21st century ready directors.”
The scheme is administered by the GTA University Centre and has a number of apprentices who are waiting for their first educational seat.
