Bailiwick Investments Limited (“Bailiwick Investments”) has completed its fifth transaction of the year with the purchase of a stake in MitonOptimal International Limited (“MitonOptimal”).
Bailiwick Investments has acquired an 11% stake in the multi-asset management company which has a presence in Guernsey, South Africa, Singapore and the Isle of Man.
Founded in 2002, MitonOptimal offers a range of multi-asset funds, discretionary fund management and advisory services to a broad range of intermediaries and institutional investors around the world.
"After a strategic review earlier in the year, we concluded that to harness the full range of growth opportunities for the group it was best to strengthen our balance sheet and ensure access to new capital. This is over and above the significant new client opportunities presented to us from the retail distribution review -type regulatory changes in almost all of the regions in which we operate," said Scott Campbell, MitonOptimal’s managing director and chief investment officer.
"Our tie-up with Bailiwick Investments allows us to retain the owner-managed culture that is integral to the MitonOptimal ethos. All of the current management are very excited about our new equity partner and the next evolutionary stage in our business’s development."
The announcement comes in the same week that Bailiwick Investments was named as part of a consortium of Channel-Islands based investors which intends to acquire SandpiperCI subject to CICRA approval.
The acquisitions follow a number of significant transactions by the Channel Islands-based closed-ended investment company including the purchase of Oatlands Village and purchase of Island Waste by Guernsey Recycling Limited. Bailiwick Investments already owns shares in the Channel Islands Securities Exchange, Jersey Electricity, Jersey Water, aviation company ASG Group and Legis Tax Services.
Simon Melling, head of corporate finance at Ravenscroft Limited, which acts as investment manager to Bailiwick Investments, will be joining MitonOptimal’s board as a non-executive director.
"We have known Scott Campbell and many of his team for a number of years and are delighted to be adding MitonOptimal to the diversified portfolio of investments," he said.
‘The growth potential in the offshore investment management market for DFM and funds services is immense and Bailiwick Investments are excited to be partnering with the experienced and high performance management team at MitonOptimal for the years ahead.’
