An increasing focus on the value of project management from Guernsey’s business community has led to demand for more training.

The GTA University Centre has seen a growing demand from all business sectors for project management training and courses and has put together a programme to meet the need.

‘Project management is not a new concept but we have found that organisations are putting more value on the importance of planning and project management. Having the right skills and a greater understanding of how to initiate, plan, execute, monitor, complete and evaluate a project will achieve the results,’ said GTA University Centre chief executive Simon Le Tocq.

‘There are serious implications for getting a project wrong, not only from a financial perspective but also in terms of potential disruption to services and the effect on staff morale and organisations are recognising that the necessary skills need to be learnt.’

The first course is a one day introduction to project management on 18th March and will give a useful knowledge base for delegates wanting to proceed on to professional level qualifications. This will be followed on 15th April by a three day ITIL Service Management Foundation course which will cover the fundamentals of the IT Infrastructure Library and how IT should be integrated within business strategy.

From 20th April, a four day course on Agile Project Management will run and will provide the theory and the practical experience of the techniques and disciplines involved with this popular approach to project management. Two final courses have been organised in June with a one day course on 3rd June which will cover the key aspects of project management and then PRINCE 2 Foundation and Practitioner courses starting on 8th June for either two or five days depending on the course chosen.

‘It’s really positive that organisations are recognising the importance of project management in turning a good idea into reality. They aren’t prepared to just hope that it works and want to ensure that the team responsible has the right tools to ensure success,’ said Mr Le Tocq.
