C5 Alliance will be hosting two coding workshops at the Digital Greenhouse during National Coding Week, starting Monday 19th September.

To commemorate National Coding Week, the Guernsey IT and technology business is holding ‘Cake and Code’ sessions during Monday and Thursday lunchtime. These sessions are open to all and will provide an engaging introduction for the wider community into the world of coding, all while having fun and eating cake.

The workshops are run by C5 Alliance employees, giving them a chance to lead a session on a topic they’re interested in and challenge the attendees to tasks on HackerRank to sharpen or even start to develop their coding skills. HackerRank is a site for hackers from all over the world to solve programming problems in different domains like algorithms, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Marc Beavan, Director, and Matthew Thornton, Director, are among the team leading the session on Monday. Both were a part of the winning FinTech Hackathon 2015 team called ‘Beanjar’, entirely made up of C5 Alliance employees. The team created an innovative money saving app targeted at children and young teens.

Matthew Thornton, Director at C5 Alliance, said: “We’re excited to be hosting the ‘Cake and Code’ sessions, passing our knowledge and passion for technology onto the community is what it’s all about. C5 is all about having an impact, so we’d like people to come away from these sessions feeling inspired and positive about the industry.”
