Funds raised at this year’s Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Guernsey Marathon will go towards installing a new lift at the Guernsey Cheshire Home.

The much-needed piece of equipment will replace the existing lift, which is unfit for purpose, and allow residents of the home easier access to their rooms.

This is the second year that the Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Guernsey Marathon has supported the Cheshire Home. The charity, which provides long-term residential, day and respite care for people with serious physical disabilities, hopes to raise £10,000 from marathon entry fees towards the cost of the lift.

Andy Finch, head of wealth management at Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management in Guernsey, said: “The Cheshire Home is an extremely worthy local charity which relies entirely on public donations so we’re very pleased to be supporting them again at this year’s marathon.

“The Home does such fantastic work in the island so we hope runners and their friends and families will support the fundraising campaign for the new lift.”

The Cheshire Home will also be raising funds at the marathon’s Seafront Sunday. There will be activities and entertainment on offer throughout the day including charity stalls, food and music.

Jon Taylor, marketing director at the Guernsey Cheshire Home, said: “We’re very grateful for the support from the Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Guernsey Marathon. We’ve set up a dedicated Just Giving page for all the runners who are kindly fundraising and we’re hoping to hit and perhaps even exceed our target of £10,000; it’ll go a long way towards meeting the cost of the new lift.”

The marathon will take runners through all of Guernsey’s ten parishes and along some of the island’s most scenic routes. The race course begins in St Peter Port and follows the coast to measure the UKA accredited distance of 26 miles 385 yards.

Event director, Peter Head said: “We’re asking all runners taking part in the marathon to donate at least £26.20 to help meet the target.

“We’ve already had a lot of entries and there’s still time for people to sign up to run and raise money for this important local charity.”

Entry to the marathon is open to anyone over the age of 17 and the organisers welcome everyone from first timers to serious club runners. Those not wishing to tackle the full marathon can enter as a relay team of two, completing a half marathon each, or a team of five completing sections between 3.8 and 6.6 miles. The relay race is open to all runners over the age of 15.

Competitors can secure their place at the starting line by registering online or by post. More event details and online entry forms can be found here.
