Equiom Guernsey has today announced its first donation of £7,500 to the Guernsey Chest and Heart LBG after choosing it as its charity of choice and pledging to support the charity for the next two years. The amount was raised through various fundraising efforts including dress down days, cake sales and raffles as well as Equiom’s global 100k Mile Challenge, an initiative across each of Equiom’s offices worldwide, with the goal of walking a total of 100,000 miles to raise money for various charities.

The Guernsey Chest and Heart LBG aims to prevent and research circulatory and respiratory disease. It undertakes regular screening programmes throughout the Bailiwick which rely entirely on voluntary support from the public. Looking at a range of risk factors, the programmes consist of a comprehensive questionnaire, electrocardiogram, breathing tests, blood pressure, height and weight measurements, together with a single blood sample which tests for cholesterol and glucose.

Managing Director of Equiom Guernsey, Rick Brooks, explained the importance of supporting local charities, stating: ‘The Chest and Heart LBG incurs large annual running costs and relies entirely on public donations and fundraising. The charity provides lifesaving initiatives throughout our Island and it is vital that it has the funding it needs to do this. Equiom Guernsey is committed to supporting our local community and with our staff solidly behind our fund raising efforts, we are confident we can raise enough funds to make a real difference to the charity. I would like to thank all of our staff for their continued commitment and determination and look forward to seeing what we can achieve as a team.’

Carolyn Oxburgh, the Centre Manager of the Chest and Heart LBG said ‘We are hugely grateful for the support we have received from Equiom Guernsey and for the donation of £7,500. This money will go towards the running of the centre and the costs for medical tests carried out during the screening programme. Without support such as this the centre would find it increasingly hard to provide the service which is aimed at reducing heart disease within the Bailiwick. Prevention is always better than cure and this donation will go a long way to help us try to achieve this. We look forward to continuing our relationship with the staff of Equiom Guernsey over the next couple of years.’
