Guernsey triathletes Andrea Nightingale and Joshua Thornton and pro cyclist James McLaughlin will line up alongside some of the world’s best at this weekend’s Super League Triathlon.
The two day competition will see 50 of the world’s greatest triathletes, including 25 Olympians, take part. They will be joined by corporate teams and as one of the event sponsors, Ravenscroft has entered two teams and invited some of Guernsey’s leading athletes to be involved.
‘The Super League Triathlon is a new unique incredible event which will be watched by millions of people across the world and will promote the Channel Islands to a global audience. Ravenscroft wanted to play its part in enabling this event to happen,’ said Ravenscroft Group CEO Jon Ravenscroft.
‘As Ravenscroft is a significant sponsor of sport in the Channel Islands and proudly supports some of the islands’ most successful athletes, we have invited them to join our teams. It’s great that Andrea, Joshua and James have taken the time out of their training schedules to compete alongside our own staff and friends of the company. We’re hoping they will be our secret to success.’
Super League Triathlon’s inaugural event in Australia earlier this year gained worldwide exposure reaching 388 million households, as well as having nearly 10 million video views and impressions on social media. All of the racing this weekend, which will centre on the Waterfront, will be broadcast live.
Competitors have come from across the world to compete with Great Britain represented by eight athletes including Jonny Brownlee, Jersey-born Dan Halksworth, Jodie Stimpson and Non Stanford.
The corporate competition will see Ravenscroft Titans and Ravenscroft Centurions compete against other teams including from First Names and Santander. Each team needs to complete two circuits of the swim, bike and running route with their scores being added to points collected by their chosen pro athletes to determine the winner.
Ravenscroft Titans has pro athletes Henri Shoeman, who won bronze at the Rio Olympics, and American Taylor Spivey while Ravenscroft Centurions has Ben Shaw from Ireland and Great Briton and under 23 rising star Sophie Coldwell.
Andrea, Joshua and James will all be in Ravenscroft Titans.
‘Ravenscroft has supported me so generously in both my road cycling and triathlons over the last two years and it is an honour to have the opportunity of representing them at this fantastic event. This will really top my season off having just returned from the age group world championships in Albi (cycling) and Rotterdam (triathlon) finishing in the top 12 for all three world events,’ said Andrea.
Ravenscroft Titans is made up of captain Angela Samson, Andrea Nightingale, Jack Kennedy, Neil Brogan, James McLaughlin and Joshua Thornton.
Ravenscroft Centurions is made up of captain Justin Jouan, Douglas Gorman, Rob Leader, Ross Garrard, Tom Nuth and Anthony McGovern.
