The ever popular Fete d’Etai summer medieval festival returns to Castle Cornet on Sunday 20 August and will feature a packed timetable of plenty of things to see and do. Costumed characters will welcome visitors at the door and those dressed in medieval dress will receive a token for free entry to the Castle and all the activities.
The ever popular Fete d’Etai summer medieval festival returns to Castle Cornet on Sunday 20 August and will feature a packed timetable of plenty of things to see and do. Costumed characters will welcome visitors at the door and those dressed in medieval dress will receive a token for free entry to the Castle and all the activities.
For the first time this year there will be a medieval art & design area, where visitors of all ages will be taught how to create their own mini mangonel (catapult) or take on the gentler pastime of illuminated lettering.
Visitors will be given the chance to try their hand at archery, hosted by the Bowmen of Guernsey. There will be a chance to get up close to medieval weapons and armour with the Guernsey Medieval Re-enactment Group. Live action role play group Tol Galen will once again be providing entertainment in the form of sword fights and mini tournaments.
Several Jersey-based participants will be involved again this year too. Medieval reenactors from Dukes Leopard will be setting up medieval food tables and sharing their knowledge of the ingredients and recipes of the time. They will also host a ‘have a go’ medieval dancing and games. Costume competitions will be held for children and adults during the afternoon.
Jo Dowding, Access & Learning Manager says: ‘It’s great to visit historic buildings but events like Fete d’Etai really do make you feel like you’re time travelling for a while. Smelling the campfire, hearing the music, handling the objects… we strive to make visitors feel really part of history on days like these’.
