Michele Hilton Design has been shortlisted in the Living Space Europe category of this year’s International Design & Architecture Awards.

Hosted by leading interior design magazine ‘design et al’, the International Design & Architecture Awards reward the best in design from across the globe and offer interior designers, architects and developers the opportunity to showcase their work. Known within the industry as being one of the most prestigious awards events in the luxury interiors sector, the awards are recognised for acknowledging achievements of the top names design names and companies across the world. The event attracts submissions from around 200 design companies each year and categories cover residential architecture, interior design and product design.

Michele’s project was the interior design of a listed five-bedroom Georgian House in St. Peter Port and involved adapting the living space to accommodate the new owners’ family of five and creating distinct areas for family living, entertaining and relaxing. The scheme focused on careful planning and co-ordinating high-impact furnishings and warm colour schemes for the living area. The bedrooms were transformed with classic furnishings and similar elegant colours.

The awards organisers describe the end result as a ‘continental, glossy contemporary style, adapting a heritage property interior to suit the lifestyle requirements of a young modern family.’

The project is one of only six shortlisted in the Living Space Europe category. Other projects include a villa in Mallorca, an apartment in Moscow, a family house in Minsk and properties in Istanbul and Zurich.

Michele is delighted that her work has been recognised at such a prestigious event:

‘This was a fantastic project and a beautiful period property to work on. We worked closely with the client to establish their preferred design style and then aimed to create a flexible living area that catered for the needs of the whole family. The completed interior resulted in practical contemporary elegance, balanced with elements of gloss and glamour.

‘There are some impressive projects in the Living Space Europe category, but even to have been shortlisted is already a considerable achievement for a small Guernsey company.’
