Louvre Group has received a Keep Guernsey Green award from the States of Guernsey Environment department.
States Member John Gollop and representatives from the Environment department recently visited our office in St Peter Port, Guernsey to present the award which validates the company’s commitment to helping Guernsey maintain a healthy, clean environment.
To achieve the award Louvre was subject to an assessment which monitors current and future commitment to reduce waste, increase recycling and improve energy conservation.
James Watchorn, Compliance Officer and Company Secretary of Louvre Group, was responsible for working closely with the Environment department to make appropriate changes.
Mr Watchorn was praised by Steve Park, an independent KGGA assessor, for his willingness to work closely with the department. Louvre’s approach and flexibility in accommodating suggested changes was highlighted in a short speech at the award presentation.
He said: "Louvre Group believes that businesses should be responsible for achieving good environmental practice and operating in a sustainable manner. We are therefore committed to reducing our environmental impact and continually monitor our environmental performance.
"It is our policy to encourage our directors, management and staff to be environmentally aware. Not only is this sound commercial sense, it is also a matter of delivering on our duty of care for future generations.
"As a part of the Keep Guernsey Green scheme Louvre Group undertook a full review of its business processes and offices to see where environmental savings could be made. From reducing paper and consumable items such as printer cartridges to ensuring that any suitable waste is recycled rather than going to landfill."
One of the most successful actions implemented by Louvre Group under the KGGA scheme is the introduction of a new document management system which has resulted in a great reduction in consumables such as paper, folders and files being used, as well as associated storage boxes and transportation between sites.
Mr Park said: "Commitment by an organisation to the scheme is really enhanced when an organisation understands that changes in practice are required by all staff, and this also needs to be closely monitored and inspected by a green champion. Louvre Group’s representative James Watchorn did a sterling job and he and the company are to be commended."
