The Guernsey Marathon has announced a three-year partnership with Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management in support of its annual marathon and relay races, with this year's event taking place on 30 August.

The global wealth management firm, with a long established presence on the island, has agreed a three-year sponsorship deal of the annual event which has become a key part of the island’s sporting calendar and attracts competitors from around the world.

The event will take runners through all 10 parishes and along some of the island’s most scenic roads and paths. The race course begins in the heart of St Peter Port and follows the coast around the island to measure the UKA accredited distance of 26 miles and 385 yards.

“So far, runners from twelve different countries have entered and we are hoping for a record turnout in 2015,” said Peter Head, Race Director for Guernsey Marathon.

“An event of this size could not take place without support from generous sponsors and we are pleased to have partnered with Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management.”

“We are proud to be supporting the marathon, which has become such a well-known and popular feature of Guernsey sporting life, thanks to the work of Peter Head and his team,” said Andy Finch, head of Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management, Guernsey.

“We look forward to sharing a great day with our many clients and friends as well as those travelling to participate in this exciting event.”

The event is open to all abilities, from first timers to serious club runners. Those not wishing to tackle the full marathon can enter as a relay team of two or five and compete on behalf of a business, charity or club.

The first place male and female winners will receive an award of £1,000, with second and third place winners collecting £500 and £250, respectively.  There will also be awards for the first placed Guernsey runner, Channel Island runner and the fastest runners over the age of 40, 50 and 60.   A new prize for the 2015 event will be given to the fastest male and female entrants running their first competitive marathon.

The international profile of the marathon has grown since its return seven years ago. In 2013, Freddie Sittuk from Kenya set the island record for the fastest marathon with a time of 2 hours, 18 minutes and 11 seconds. A bonus prize of £500 is on offer for the runner who can break Freddie’s impressive record.

Funds raised from the event will be donated to Guernsey Cheshire Home, a charity dedicated to providing care and support for adults living with severe physical disabilities.

Registration is now open for this year’s event and competitors can secure their place at the starting line for a reduced fee by submitting an entry form online or by post, before the early bird deadline on 31 May. There is a limit of 500 runners for the marathon and 150 teams for the relay races. Runners can find more event details and online entry forms at www.guernseymarathon.gg
