Investec Private Banking has appointed Mark Thomson as its new Head of Treasury.
Mr Thomson’s career in a trading environment began 22 years ago when he started work at a local money brokerage company. This gave him an insight into the world of treasury dealing and he was immediately inspired by the fast moving environment to make treasury his desired career path.
In his new role, the father-of-three who was educated in Guernsey, is responsible for the efficient, day-to-day running of the treasury department, along with delivering foreign exchange services and managing the bank’s balance sheet. A large part of his new role will be to liaise with the various business development areas and assist them with client visits and meetings, using his treasury knowledge and experience to demystify the client’s perception of what treasury does and how it could add value to their lives.
"Investec is known for its innovative approach to banking and I aim to use this philosophy to develop the treasury team’s offering in order to further benefit our clients going forward. Investec has a great reputation both locally and further afield, and I am extremely pleased to be given the opportunity to work with such a widely recognised brand,’ said Mr Thomson.
"You are encouraged to think outside the box and no idea is dismissed out of hand, which is very refreshing. This is at the heart of Investec’s ‘Out of the Ordinary’ philosophy. The main challenge will be keeping up with regulatory requirements as new metrics are constantly put in place. Another challenge – a very positive one – will be to embrace fully the Investec culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. This is very different from anything I’ve experienced previously."
Mr Thomson, who is ACI qualified and holds certificates in banking and mortgage advice and practice, is also an education officer for ACI – an association of wholesale financial market professionals.
