The State of Guernsey have today launched a SMART Guernsey project to develop a Guernsey Economic Modelling system or GEM.
GEM is being developed by Dorey Limited, a small local firm specialising in financial modelling and data analysis. It will provide the States with ongoing access to current economic and demographic forecasts to develop our understanding and promote informed planning and decision making.
Colin Vaudin, Chief Information Officer, States of Guernsey said: “We are very pleased to announce the launch of the Guernsey Economic Modelling project which will build on the success of our unique Rolling Electronic Census. GEM will take the huge amount of data we now have at our disposal and from it create a system which will place projections of our demographic and economic future at our fingertips. Having ongoing access to forecasts based on the most current information will greatly enhance our ability to make informed decisions about Guernsey’s future.”
Martyn Dorey, Director of Dorey Limited said: “Guernsey Economic Modelling is a unique opportunity to bring the power and insight of “big data” to decision making in Guernsey and we at Dorey Limited are very excited about delivering it. The States of Guernsey is already a world leader in data collection and management and GEM will take this a step further placing Guernsey right at the cutting edge of data analysis.”
