Norman Piette install innovative new machine

Norman Piette has installed a state-of-the-art machine to speed up the manufacture of open metal web joists for use in the building of energy efficient buildings. The top-of-the-range press produces joists that are lightweight, eco-friendly and are becoming increasingly popular with architects, developers and contractors.

‘This is an investment in the fastest method of manufacturing of metal web joists in a single workstation,’ says NP Group CEO Paul Rogers.

‘More and more developers have energy efficiency at the forefront of their building’s design and construction. Metal web joists are popular because they make the installation of electrical, plumbing and ventilation services so much easier, and they are much better suited for future building modifications. The joists are a composite of timber and steel forming an open web design combining the lightness of timber with the strength of a steel web. They eliminate costly cutting and drilling when installing services or incorporating modern ventilation and heat recycling systems. With the addition of the new press we will be able to provide over 100 homes in the Channel Islands with joists this year.’

Mr Rogers says the new machine has significantly increased the production rate and is a sound investment in the future of building in the Channel Islands. He says that this  goes some way to satisfying the demand for these joists from organisations like the Guernsey Housing Association who look to construct efficient buildings with a sustainable, long-term future.
