The ripple effects of winning the Best Dressed Mini Duck competition at this year’s Harbour Carnival have recently been realised by a group of young people on the Model Yacht Pond.
As the overall winner of the competition, Luke Shaw from Year 6 at Castel School, opened this year’s event in August, plus won himself and his class a sailing lesson on the Model Yacht Pond, kindly donated by the Guernsey Sailing Trust.
Peter Curtis, Luke’s class teacher said: ‘It’s a great opportunity to be able to bring the pupils to this session and for some children, this was their first time sailing. All the class has been looking forward to it and we’re grateful Luke’s creative creation has resulted in such a wonderful opportunity.’
Dustyn Molver from organisers of Harbour Carnival, the Guernsey Round Table said: ‘The Island’s pre and primary school children were asked to decorate their mini ducks with a birthday theme to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our event sponsor, RBC Wealth Management, supporting the event. We’re delighted Luke and his class have now experienced the final part of his prize.’
Andy Creber from RBC Wealth Management said: ‘Luke’s class prize on the Model Yacht Pond signifies the end of another successful year for Harbour Carnival. We’d like to thank the Guernsey Sailing Trust for providing this great opportunity to a group of young people. With the main beneficiary The HUB, recently receiving their half of the £22,300 raised from this annual family fund-raising event, we would like to thank everyone for their support and look forward to 2018.’
