The 41st Skipton Swimarathon fundraising total has reached £54,460 becoming the second largest amount raised in the history of the event.
The committee would like to thank everyone who took part including the first time winners of the Gold Corporate Award GROW Limited and sponsors Skipton International. A charitable organisation themselves, GROW entered a team in the Swimarathon and set a great example to others by raising over £1,500 to be eligible for the Gold Award.
Eddie Higgins, Manager from GROW Limited, said: “The Swimarathon is one of Guernsey’s annual events that we as a company always like to get our staff involved with. It’s a great way to raise money for local causes and we all have a fantastic time in the pool. We are very thankful to be recognised for our efforts in this way and hope that this will encourage more firms to participate next year.”
Local law firm Collas Crill was this year’s only recipient of a Silver Award, raising over £1,000. RBSI and Ipes were also recognised with Bronze Awards for raising over £500 each.
This year’s main beneficiary of the Skipton Swimarathon was the Guille-Allès Children’s Library Project receiving £25,000. The library will use the donation to help redesign the children’s area, encouraging more children to read and participate in interactive learning. The Guernsey Round Table and Lions Club of Guernsey will split the remaining funds between their charitable projects.
Nick Guillemette, Chairman of the Skipton Swimarathon, said: “The committee was delighted to see the fundraising total eclipse last year’s and become the second largest amount we have ever raised. The enthusiasm from all who took part this year was inspiring and it is marvellous to see all our swimmers’ dedication pay off.”
Aaron Walden, Skipton’s Commercial Manager, said: “We are always looking for new ways to get teams involved with the Skipton Swimarathon so this year we created the Corporate Award Scheme. We are thrilled that GROW Limited took up the opportunity to fundraise for a Corporate Award and raise such a fantastic sum of money. GROW demonstrated great community spirit and commitment to the cause. We hope to see them return to the pool next year.”
The Skipton Swimarathon will return again in 2018 for the 42nd year from 3rd-7th October.
