Young gamers will pit their skills against one another this weekend at a FIFA 17 tournament hosted by a Young Enterprise group.

Supernova Game Blast, supported by stockbrokers Ravenscroft, is a 32-person gaming marathon for Year 7 to Year 10 schoolchildren, taking place at The Digital Greenhouse on Saturday.

‘We wanted to stand out as a company, and nobody’s ever hosted a games event before. There’s a massive gaming community in Guernsey and I thought it would be a great opportunity to have a fun, social and competitive day for likeminded young people,’ said Elizabeth College student, Peter Brock, 16, managing director of the Young Enterprise group, Supernova.

‘The response has been so positive, we’ve even had a budding young YouTuber wanting to vlog for us, so I’m excited to see how it turns out.’

Mark Bousfield, group managing director at Ravenscroft, added: ‘When this group of young people came to us asking for our support we were very happy to help. They had great ideas, a solid business plan and an entrepreneurial spirit, which we always admire at Ravenscroft. Gaming is hugely popular and to capitalise on this, while providing an entertaining event for young people, is commendable. I wish them the best of luck.’

Tickets for the competition, which runs from 12pm to 5pm on 4 March, cost £10 and can be ordered through the group’s Facebook page, Supernova Game Blast. Youngsters will also have the opportunity to enter the venue for free and play a host of arcade and traditional video games – such as Pac-Man, Rocket League and Tetris – for 50p a go, with a chance of winning a prize.

‘The competition for the grand prizes donated by Sure will be fierce, as a speaker and a TalkBand for a tenner is very appealing, but we want to make sure it’s still a friendly environment. Hopefully we can encourage more young people to get involved with gaming socially through this event,’ said Peter.
