17 young people from The Youth Commission services, including The HUB, enjoyed two special trips that they may not otherwise had the chance to do. Many of the young people had never experienced travelling by plane or travelled outside of Guernsey before.
One of the young people said, ‘I’ve never been on a plane before. I was really nervous but I loved it in the end’.
Another young person said, ‘This is the best day ever, I wish we could come back every day.’
Service Manager at The Youth Commission, Charlie Cox, said, ‘These trips have been an amazing opportunity for our young people, offered primarily to those who would benefit from it most. For some, simply travelling to the UK was a special occasion in itself.
“We were extremely fortunate with the weather during the second trip and the young people were able to enjoy everything the theme park had to offer. Paultons Park was an amazing opportunity for young people who have faced many difficulties in their lives and we are extremely grateful for all of Blue Islands’ generosity.’
Hampshire-based Paultons Park was recently voted the UK’s best-rated amusement park for the second year running in TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards. Paultons Park – home of Peppa Pig World and Lost Kingdom – has more than 70 rides and attractions for children and young people to enjoy.
Blue Islands CEO Rob Veron said: “It’s fantastic to hear everyone had such a terrific time at Paultons Park – and especially the weather was better for the second trip! Hearing about the fun times they’ve had, seeing the smiles in the photos and knowing these memories will last for years to come is simply wonderful, and we are happy to have been involved. As a proud, Channel Islands based airline we look to work with local charities whenever we can, and everyone at Blue Islands is delighted they had such a great time.”
The Youth Commission is a charity responsible for the delivery of all forms of youth work in the Bailiwick. It provides children and young people aged 4-25 with seamless access to a range of universal and specialist services ensuring they can take part in activities or get the tailored support that is most relevant to their individual needs. The HUB, a service delivered by The Youth Commission, offers a safe and confidential space for children and young people to access one-to-one, structured and evidence-based emotional support.
Wigwam Support Group was also given the opportunity to travel to the theme park as part of the three charities chosen by Blue Islands.
