Grand Jersey gifts a basket full of festive happiness to SCBU
Back in the Middle Ages people believed that if you ate a mince pie every day from Christmas to the Twelfth night you’d have happiness for the next 12 months and the Chef at Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa is hoping he’s got just the ingredients to help that ring true for some local families.

Nicolas Valmagna, Executive Chef at the AA Five Star St Helier hotel has been busy baking a whole basket full of mince pies filled with delicious dried fruits and spices to deliver to families whose children will be spending this Christmas in the Special Care Baby Unit at Jersey’s General Hospital.

Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa has organised the sweet surprise for siblings and family members to enjoy in the Unit’s family room as part of its ongoing support for the local charity Friends of SCBU.

The hotel, with the help of its generous guests has raised over £26,000 in (the past four years and will continue to support Friends of SCBU through 2018.

Commenting on the gesture Simon Miller General Manager of Hand Picked Hotels Jersey said, “Local charity Friends of SCBU works really hard raising funds to help ensure parents and babies get that extra special care when they need it. We’ve been supporting them for some time now, not only raising funds but also helping where we can to bring a smile to those families using the unit.

“We hope these seasonal treats will bring a bit of Christmas cheer to the families with babies spending this Christmas in hospital.”

Friends of SCBU is a local charity dedicated to raising funds for Jersey’s Special Care Baby Unit. The unit provides essential treatment for premature and sick babies in the island
