This position is remunerated through the provision of accommodation in exchange for overseeing the house and the tenants.JAYF is
a charity which provides supervised hostel accommodation to young people (18–25
years old) who might otherwise be homeless. We are committed to the safeguarding and promoting of
the welfare of the people we provide care and support to.
To enable such supervision, we provide
accommodation within each of our hostel for ‘Guardians’ who support those
people in our care in conjunction with the JAYF Liaison Officer, and who uphold
the values of our Association.
We
currently have a vacancy at one of our hostels, Jeune House. The position would
ideally suit a couple, although individual applications will be considered.
Key
responsibilities include:
Overseeing the orderly running of the hostel
Ensuring the house is a safe and happy place
to live
Keeping communal areas clean on a regular
basis
Collecting and banking of rent, and keeping
accurate and clear records
Supporting our Liaison Officer on various
house matters
We are
looking for the following key competencies:
Able to
develop a rapport and apply a caring approach with young people
Able to
carry out some physical duties (no heavy lifting required)
Common
sense, pragmatic approach to issues
Good
communication skills (in English – further languages are helpful)
Understanding
of the importance of safeguarding, diversity and inclusion
Five
years’ residency is necessary; please note that, due to the nature of the
role, police checks will be required of the successful applicant.
