Full Description
The position of Manager is essential to ensure and allow Sanctuary Trust to take the next step in its evolution and provide a professional and accountable lead in new developments linked to registration, greater co-operation with States’ departments / ministries and to ensure that best practice is followed and maintained in the field of social care. The post-holder will have responsibility for safe-guarding of clients; ensuring that relevant, professional records are maintained on behalf of clients and that all responsibilities are met in regard to legislation. In consultation with the Treasurer, the post-holder will need to have a sound understanding of budgeting and ensure that the charity remains solvent and able to maintain its core functions.
The post-holder will have overall responsibility for staff recruitment, induction and service-related training and ensure that all staff are judged suitable for employment. Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation is essential as is an understanding of employment law and best practice in relation to anti-discrimination procedures.
The Manager will also act and be seen as the ‘face’ of Sanctuary Trust and will be expected to represent the organisation at various events and meetings and may be required to participate in media events, interviews and features for the benefit of the Trust and its client group. Some additional fund-raising duties may be required.
Structure of Line Management:
Reporting to the Chairman of the Trust in the first instance but also the Board of Trustees at regular meetings. In addition, periodic meetings with the Treasurer will be required in relation to Trust finances.
Main responsibilities:
- Day to day operational control of the organisation.
- Creation and maintenance of client care-planning programmes and issues, in co-ordination with the Senior Support Worker (SSW), and other support staff.
- Liaison with associated health professionals and maintenance of sound professional relationships.
- Over-view of all aspects of staff recruitment, induction and training – paid or voluntary.
- Over-view of organisational finances – subject to an appropriate period of guidance, training and induction into financial systems and responsibilities.
- An over-view of annual budgets and input into their development in consultation with the Treasurer.
- To meet regularly with the Treasurer to gain and maintain a grasp of finances and financial systems.
- Co-ordination and ‘lead’ in meeting registration requirements.
- Adherence to all relevant Health and Safety legislation.
- Maintenance and monitoring of all and any risk factors in relation to the organisation, its clients and staff.
- Responsibility for safe-guarding of clients and adherence to all protocols / policies / procedures related to this issue. As Manager, the post-holder will have responsibility in attending any inquiries related to safe-guarding issues and will be pro-active in ensuring compliance with all legislation and guidelines on best practice and maintaining good, open lines of communication with relevant statutory agencies, e.g. Social Services Adult Team and the office of the Registered Homes Inspectorate.
- Ensuring the smooth administration of the organisation.
- Ensuring that the organisation meets all requirements of good governance, in association with the Head of Compliance.
- Over-view of maintenance of buildings in conjunction with the SSW, and in co-ordination with Trustees, to arrange any relevant works required.
- To keep abreast of all new developments in the area of social care relevant to Sanctuary Trust.
- To maintain and develop links to the community, locally and with the wider island community.
- Maintain an over-view of rental agreements and payments of rent and progress of individual social security claims initiated by support staff.
- Assist in any promotional or fund-raising activities commensurate with the role, {this may include media work}.
- In consultation with Trustees, develop Aims and Objectives for each year and evaluate progress on achievement of these.
- To be responsible for regular, recorded, staff supervisions.
- To organise and attend regular staff team meetings.
- To compile and present a periodic Manager’s report.
- To attend Trustee meetings to present Manager’s report.
- Take the lead in service developments.
- Delegate tasks and duties to other paid staff.
Additional information:
The post-holder should have ‘hands on’ experience of work with the homeless or have knowledge of the wider social care sector. An understanding of the issues at the core of homelessness and addiction is desirable. A recognised qualification within the field of care management or similar is essential or a commitment to undertake such training. The post-holder will have empathy and understanding for all the clients of Sanctuary Trust in a non-judgemental and open manner. An excellent communicator, he / she will need to lead the staff team by example and in accordance with the underlying values of Sanctuary Trust and its mission.
The post necessitates working as a self-motivated individual whilst maintaining links with the Board of Trustees, staff team and external professional bodies. At all times an understanding of professional boundaries is essential.
