To be based at Jersey Opera House from the beginning of 2025.  Based for the remainder of 2023 and 2024 to be determined, but likely to be St. Helier.
Introduction – Setting the Scene Jersey Opera House (JOH) has been closed to the public since March 2020 when the Covid Pandemic hit.  It has been hugely missed by the Jersey public – community performance groups, schools, artists, musicians and of course audiences.  For a considerable period the staff team has been just three, it is now 4 with the appointment of Andy Eagle as Interim CEO who has been appointed to lead JOH in the interim to its re-launch.
Whilst being a treasured and beautiful Edwardian building, originally constructed in 1900, it has accumulated many operational challenges due to its age.  The Jersey Government have committed £11 million + in recent months to rectify many of these long running defects through capital investment and improvement.  Currently tenders are public with the intention to appoint a main contractor over the summer and the “works” to commence September.  At this point the staff team and JOH’s equipment, such as lighting and sound, will relocate to a new base from which it will operate until the capital development programme is completed and the building effectively handed back to the JOH team.  This is anticipated to be December 2024.
During 2024 the plan is that JOH will present a programme of events and activities in St Helier and across the island under the title “JOH on Tour” (working title). When the JOH refurbishment works are complete and we are able to re-open, the main programme will transfer into the Opera House though we will continue to undertake learning and engagement work in the community and partner on special events and performances with colleagues from Jersey and beyond.
We need someone to work with the Interim CEO, wider team and Programme Manager (also to be appointed) to maximise audiences and income for the JOH on Tour 2024 programme through the implementation of an effective marketing and sales strategy.  This strategy must also be effective for when we transfer back into the JOH.  We need to maximise audiences and sales for our inaugural re-opening season and ongoing programme into 2025 and beyond.  There’s a lot to be done and whoever is appointed will be expected to hit the ground running!
These are exciting times for the arts in Jersey with significant government backing in place, not only for JOH but also the wider arts community.  This is a hugely exciting opportunity for an individual to help shape the future of the arts in Jersey and to effectively be part of the team right at the beginning of the JOH re-launch. There is enormous affection for both the JOH brand and the theatre business on Jersey, so in many ways there is already a captive audience waiting.  But we want to go further to reach out to all the communities of the island, grow our audience base and interest in the arts programme we will present and produce.  We therefore need someone who is committed to diversity, equalities, inclusion and will work tirelessly to reach out to everyone. The new JOH will be for all the communities and individuals of Jersey with the guiding programming principle “something for everyone, everything for someone”.  This approach should allow the Marketing Manager to maximize the effective use of the JOH audience data.
