We manage and operate the island’s airport, harbour and marina gateways and you’ll be working on vital equipment that keeps the island ‘open for business’ and people and goods moving on and off the island safely.

We’re expanding our in-house engineering team and there’s no doubt our infrastructure, asset and facilities portfolio is probably quite different to what you’ve come across before. But that’s part of the attraction of you wanting to make your working days even more interesting and rewarding. As long as you have the core ‘technical’ experience, we’ll provide any specialist training/courses you need to expand your skills and knowledge within our supportive team environment.

Working across the full PPM and RM maintenance and repair programme for the harbours, and integrating with our established team at the airport, a positive attitude is as important as your capability. Confident using your initiative, finding solutions and making sensible decisions, you take pride in getting the job done brilliantly whether you’re working on your own or with team colleagues. And, because we never know what might happen next, you have to be flexible and responsive to the urgency of any situation. We work a 38-hour week, Monday to Friday, and participate in a stand-by rota to deal with any emergencies.

Think harbours and marinas - from the ro-ro ramps, marina gates, fuel tanker berth, pontoons and gangways, baggage and security systems – and you’ll begin to see the breadth of equipment you’ll be getting to grips with. On a day-to-day, nuts and bolts aspect of your role, it’s all about inspecting, diagnosing, repairing and reporting back through our TabFM system, to ensure everything is shipshape and in good working order. You’ll need to have at least a BTEC level 3 and a solid foundation of post-training mechanical engineering experience across a range of equipment and systems.

Main Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose and repair faults on equipment owned, or operated, by PoJ in line with PoJ priorities. Including off shore assets.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance on equipment owned, or operated, by PoJ to minimise disruption through random failures.
- Install and commission new equipment and systems.
- Work in areas assessed as being a Confined Space.
- Ensure that all PoJ Health, Safety and security rules, plus safe systems of work are strictly observed to maintain the wellbeing of themselves, co-workers and the general public.
- Maintain documentation relating to equipment maintenance and repair in the form of drawings, technical reports and maintenance records.
- Report back on work done, materials used, time taken, further work required and asset condition using the TabsFM system for both reactive and planned maintenance work.
- Provide technical advice, guidance and support to PoJ management, and business partners, on mechanical engineering issues relating to the department’s work.
- Maintain a knowledge of current trends in mechanical engineering, environmental and allied technologies to ensure relevant developments are considered when carrying out duties.

Key Skills and Experience
- A minimum technical qualification of BTEC level 3, or equivalent, in a mechanical engineering discipline.
- Post training experience in a mechanical engineering environment gaining a thorough knowledge of a diverse range of mechanical equipment and systems.
- A high level of computer literacy skills in order to interrogate and run performance reports on PoJ control systems.
- Emergency First Aid at Work.
- Confined Space Entrant.
- Current driving licence, Group B minimum.

Personal Qualities
- Good oral and written communication skills to ensure work related information is disseminated accurately.
- Ability to adapt to unexpected situations.
- Ability to work undirected.
- Ability to interact effectively and politely with colleagues, managers, external contractors and members of the public.
