SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGER?

DRIVE OUR SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL AGENDA FORWARD WITH PASSION AND PURPOSE

As you would expect, ensuring safe and environmentally sound activities is paramount throughout every activity at our harbours and airports. No ifs, buts or maybes. Here at Ports of Jersey, we have a real passion for progress and continually challenge what we do and how we do it.  And this is a great opportunity for an experienced engineer or construction professional to make a real impact influencing the shape and driving the implementation of the safety and environmental agenda with a real sense of leadership and purpose.

As a senior manager in the 50-strong maintenance engineering team, you’ll be building on and developing our current safety and environmental policies, conducting audits, updating records and documentation, along with a wide variety of hands-on, day-to-day activities. We have some great safety policies and want to intensify attention on the wider environmental platform and accentuate our commitments there.

Our diverse airport and harbour infrastructure, assets and activities mean you probably haven’t encountered anything quite like our maintenance engineering operation before, including a major £multimillion new terminal project starting soon. Open-minded about the precise nature of your mechanical, electrical or construction/building experience, we’ll help you get up to speed with the specifics of our maintenance engineering challenges. And, if you already hold a NEBOSH certificate or other H&S qualifications, that would be great but we’ll support you in gaining those once you join. What’s essential is that you get on with things proactively and understand practically what it takes to create a safety compliant, forward-looking and environmentally friendly culture.

Of course that involves producing rationale business case proposals and well-written policies that incorporate emerging thinking and applicable regulation to make sure both our current and future practices deliver what they’re ultimately intended to do in keeping us safe, compliant, operationally efficient and environmentally sound. Yet it’s also about how you bring those words to life with clarity and credibility, draw resourcefully on real-life insights and common-sense experiences, and win hearts and minds as you bring others along the journey with you.

Not backwards in coming forwards or targeting the things that really matter, you’ll be out there actively and enthusiastically talking with colleagues, contractors, business partners, external agencies and specialist government departments so that everyone has a shared understanding and commitment to step up the pace of change through a combination of aspirational thinking and pragmatic reality. It shouldn’t surprise you that other PoJ functions also have a safety, environmental and CSR remit and, although your prime focus will be in maintenance engineering, you’ll be collaborating across the business to accelerate progress. There’s a lot of positive and exciting stuff going on at PoJ and, because our people take pride in what they do, it all adds up to being a very interesting and special place to work.

If you’re as passionate about moving our engineering safety and environmental platform forward with a real sense of purpose, please give Rick Crew a call on [01534] 446282 to find out more.  Alternatively, please apply by visiting www.ports.je/recruitment
