Full Description

The role of Ports of Jersey Security Officer is critical for the smooth and safe running of both the Airport and Harbour. As a Security Officer you will be responsible for providing high quality and compliant security operations, ensuring that staff, premises and passengers remain safe and secure across the Ports. 

Main responsibilities 

Access control - controlling of access to the Airport and Harbour, checking identification or travel documents for all passengers, and relevant ID cards staff and Airport/ Harbour users requiring access.      
Patrolling - carry out foot patrols of the Airport and Harbour to ensure they are secure and report any incidents accordingly.
    
Passenger prep – preparing passengers for processing through the central search screening area, assisting and advising on how to transport liquids, electronics etc. for screening.
        
Passenger / staff screening – the compliant screening of passengers and to the required standards at both the airport and harbour, often performing physical searches where necessary.
       
X-ray screening – screening/searching personal items, baggage and cargo in order to ensure no prohibited articles are brought on to our premises or on to Aircraft or vessels.
       
Resolve queries from customers and assist them with their journey through the airport and harbour offering advice where necessary and high levels of customer service.
         
Respond to and assist with emergency situations.
        
Monitor CCTV and carry out daily and weekly reports.
        
Support the Security Team Leader with ensuring the Security operation at the Airport and Harbour works as efficiently as possible.
       
Read and adhere to security notices, completing documentation clearly and concisely on any incidents that may have occurred.
 

Key skills and experience 

Have excellent customer service and communication skills with customers, regularly communicating clearly and concisely in a format appropriate to the recipient.         
Basic IT skills and sufficient colour perception to use colour X-ray equipment. Must complete Ishihara or equivalent test.

Have an ability to deliver verbal and written reports where necessary.
     
An understanding of the principles of equality and diversity in relation to passengers’ needs.
  
Understand the importance of Health & Safety responsibilities and to maintain compliance with best practice and legal requirements.
 
To undertake and successfully complete all training modules in order to meet company Health and Safety standards and AVSEC/MARSEC standards.

Demonstrate the ability to think and act quickly in emergencies or under pressure.        
Maintain high personal standards and evidence good time keeping and flexibility.
Able to demonstrate an ability to work as part of a team, assisting work colleagues and responding well to supervisor and managerial instructions. 
Able to deal calmly and confidently with all demands from the public.
Be fully flexible in terms of availability to support the rostering requirements of the post to sustain the operational requirements of a 24hrs per day/7days per week Airport. 
Be physically able to bend at the knees repeatedly in order to perform body searches of passengers
