6 things we saw as Halo 5 launched worldwide

The biggest Xbox One exclusive of the year is here – Halo 5: Guardians has launched around the world and there have been several events to mark the occasion.

In London, Microsoft took over the Roundhouse in Camden in order to celebrate the latest instalment of their multibillion-dollar gaming franchise. Suffice to say the room was packed out with Halo-related props and paraphernalia to get everyone in the mood.

Here are some of best things we saw.

1. Cool toys

These very impressive figurines of the two main characters – the Master Chief and Spartan Locke – were extremely popular with lucky fans who made it into the event.

2. Live action models

It wasn’t just toys on show. Live action models of Master Chief and Spartan Locke were on patrol throughout the evening. That said, you did well to get close to them given the number of die-hard Halo fans who wanted a selfie.

3. Heavy weaponry

Just a battle rifle on a plinth. No big deal. Incidentally, this was by far the most popular (and deadliest) weapon used by the various multiplayer teams that took part in a tournament on the night.

4. Spaceships

Or a Covenant Banshee to those in the know. This also happens to be the ship that appeared in the explosive live action photoshoot down by the O2 to mark the launch of the game. Reports overexcited games journalists tried to use it to get home to Clapham remain unconfirmed.

5. Xbox One Halo 5 Bundle

With all the big games launches these days there seems to be a console bundle, and why would Halo 5 be any different? The biggest exclusive on Microsoft’s console this year of course had its own special edition console, and the two-tone hardware was on display at the show. Nice, right? But it’ll cost you in the region of £360.

6. Multiplayer

The big event of the night was the multiplayer tournament that took place in front of a live audience – complete with e-sports commentators to talk us through it. Once that got players in the mood, there were plenty of consoles in the room to give the new game a whirl for yourself too.

Our advice? Skim through the single player campaign, the real fun is to be had in the multiplayer arena.
