The error message linked to the fingerprint scanner on some iPhone handsets has been issued a software fix by Apple.
The technology giant became aware of the issue after a series of reports claiming iPhones had been disabled after seeing the message. The root of which is unofficial repair shops replacing the connector that runs between the Touch ID fingerprint scanner’s sensor and the phone’s home button.
The resulting message ‘bricked’ many devices for those affected, but Apple has now issued a software update via iTunes to help those in need of it.
The note also details how users can carry out the update.
The iPhone maker also issued an apology to anyone affected by the issue, saying: “We apologise for any inconvenience, this was designed to be a factory test and was not intended to affect customers. Customers who paid for an out-of-warranty replacement of their device based on this issue should contact AppleCare about a reimbursement.”
