Dyson has revealed a new type of vacuum cleaner that can right itself if it falls over.
It’s thanks to the design of the Cinetic Big Ball Cylinder vacuum, which has spheres on either side of the main vacuum chamber, that when it falls over – as many vacuum cleaners do when being pulled around the house – it rolls back the right way up.
The heaviest parts of the vacuum have been mounted at the bottom of this Dyson, so it has the low centre of gravity needed to easily self-right.
The new device is available now on the Dyson website, and also comes with what the company calls a “hygienic dirt ejector”, which uses a special silicone collar to grab every bit of dust it picks up and remove it all when you empty it.
The level of testing Dyson went through on the Big Ball is also impressive – a team of 55 engineers built 1,000 prototypes, which clocked up around ten miles of vacuuming during testing.
According to Dyson, around 20,000 hours of testing was done to ensure the Big Ball was up to the task of cleaning your home and rolling itself upright.
