Car giant Hyundai has revealed a new kind of mobility technology it’s working on – exo-skeletons designed to help the elderly or those with disabilities move more freely.
The Korean firm has unveiled three lightweight aluminium suits at the Geneva Motor Show which uses robotics to help users regain the ability to move more freely, and in the case of the H-MEX help those with lower spinal injuries regain the ability to walk.
Hyundai has also created devices to provide upper body and back support for manual workers, as well as a third version called the HUMA that’s designed to help those with limited muscle power – helping them to stand, climb stairs and even run.
Each of the devices links to a smartphone app that enables users to adjust various settings, including walking pace and the angle their torso is tilted.
Hyundai has not yet revealed any pricing information or if and when the various designs could be made widely available to consumers, though the firm has made reference to “affordable prices” in discussing the skeletons.
